Maura Moore

Meet Maura Moore, a dedicated professional hailing from Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating from Hammond School, Maura embarked on an educational journey at the University of South Carolina, where she earned her BA in Psychology and her MEd in Rehabilitation Counseling from the USC School of Medicine. Her commitment to excellence led her to obtain certification in Addictions Studies, as well as a Global Career Development Facilitator Certification through the National Board for Certified Counselors.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Moore has been instrumental in empowering individuals facing various challenges. At the SC Dept. of Vocational Rehabilitation, she facilitated the employment of clients with mental and physical disabilities. She furthered her impact as an Addictions Counselor at Morris Village for the SC Dept. of Mental Health, supporting female alcoholics and addicts in their recovery journey.
But Mrs. Moore's talents extend beyond her professional realm. With a passion for dance that began in her youth, she has studied and taught dance throughout her academic and professional endeavors. From directing the competition team at Calvert-Brodie Studios to choreographing for esteemed theaters like Workshop Theater and Act One Theater, Mrs. Moore's choreography and students gained national recognition at prestigious dance competitions.
Transitioning from her state position to focus on family, Mrs. Moore continued to teach dance part-time while engaging in volunteer work with organizations like the Junior League of Columbia and the Boy Scouts of America, earning recognition as District Den Leader of the Year. Eventually, she returned to full-time work as a Religion Teacher and Campus Minister at St. Joseph Catholic School before joining the Cardinal Newman Family as the Middle School Guidance Counselor in 2018.
At Cardinal Newman, Mrs. Moore wears many hats, serving on various faculty teams and providing support to sports teams. She finds fulfillment in guiding middle school students through the challenges of adolescence, emphasizing coping skills, resilience, self-awareness, and accountability while integrating faith into her interactions.
Outside of work, Mrs. Moore finds joy in family life with her husband, Edwin, and their two children, Lillian ('20) and Hamilton ('23.) A parishioner at Transfiguration Catholic Church, she actively participates in community organizations like the Columbiettes. An avid traveler, Mrs. Moore enjoys exploring the country in her RV with her family and beloved fur baby, Charlie, and proudly supports the Clemson Tigers.
