DeHihns Family Memorial Scholarship

This newly established scholarship honors the memory of Margaret DeHihns Nauful, Class of 1965, and Monica DeHihns Rook, Class of 1973, who both passed away in 2023. Margaret and Monica valued faith, family, and friends and had a true love of learning. When faced with insurmountable health obstacles, they chose hope and courage. They were two of five siblings to graduate from Cardinal Newman.

This year the scholarship will provide a $1,500 award to a graduating senior who plans to continue their studies at a post-secondary institution.

  • Applicants must be graduating seniors, who have attended Cardinal Newman for at least three years of high school.
  • Applicants must have plans to attend college.
  • Applicants must submit an essay of 1-2 pages on the importance of faith, hope, and courage in everyday circumstances of our daily lives.

Essays are due back to the Advancement Office by Friday, March 14, 2025.

Courage is a natural aspect of hope, and hope is a natural aspect of prayer.  And turning to God in prayer encourages us in deep and sometimes astonishing ways.  Hope is a rich reward for our courage and faith.  With a sense of encouragement guiding us in difficult times, we're better able to stay positive, to not lose heart, and to give encouragement to others.  This flow of faith, courage, and hope is at the center of our ability to share the love of God as He calls us to do.

Be strong and courageous...Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.  Joshua 1:9
