Music
"Music, great music, distends the spirit, arouses profound emotions and almost naturally invites us to raise our minds and hearts to God in all situations of human existence, the joyful and the sad. Music can become prayer. Music has no borders, no race or color, no limits of country, no ethnicity. Music makes the people come together."
-Pope Benedict XVI
Cardinal Newman Department of Music offers a diverse and comprehensive music education for all students. We offer Band, Choral, and Orchestral programs as well as the brand new Cardinal Newman Organ Academy and Piano Studio. Students have the opportunity to receive one-on-one music instruction as well as gain large and small ensemble experiences. CN Department of Music's goal is to provide students with a pre-conservatory experience where students leave being prepared for careers in music or with the confidence to keep music in their lives at any level they wish.
We also offer courses in Music Theory, Conducting, and music technology and composition based on student interest. Many colleges and universities offer non-music majors scholarships to continue in music at the college level. You do not need to be a professional musician to keep music in your life!
Our ensembles attend SCMEA events/festivals and travel for concerts and performance tours!
