CN Faculty Member Honored by International Academic Competitions Organization

Last weekend, at the National History Bee/Bowl HS national championships in Arlington, Virginia, our very own Mr. Sean Briody was honored by International Academic Competitions with the 2022 Mark Wolfsberg Spirit of IAC Award. As its name suggests, this award is given to the individual (coach or staff member) who exhibits the best “spirit of the game.” Mr. Briody was a player in the history bee in 2014 and 2015, and has returned to help at the national championships every year since 2017. Of course he now gets to coach Cardinal Newman students in preparation for the competitions, which he says he sincerely enjoys. CN will have six middle school boys competing in the MS nationals this June in Orlando, FL.

Mr. Briody is seen here with Arthur W. Ramsay, IAC Director of Elementary and Middle School Operations, who also happens to be an old quiz bowl rival of his from their high school days! The plaque now hangs in Mr. Briody's classroom next to the many plaques our students have earned.
