The Key Club organizes the Thanksgiving Food Drive each year in collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul's Society at St. Joseph's Church. As part of the food drive, students participated in a Halloween dress down day on October 29th, where students were asked to donate $5 to dress down in their favorite costumes. In addition, each of our eight Houses was asked to collect enough items to make 20 boxes of food, between November 1st to the 12th. Houses were awarded 1 point for each item brought in or 30 points if a someone donated a complete box.
The items and money collected were used to make boxes of food that would provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner for four to six people, including either a turkey or a ham. These boxes were delivered to St. Joseph's with help from some members of our CN varsity basketball team, Coach Deter and Coach Eudy. St. Vincent de Paul's Society distributed these boxes to members of the parish who suffer from food insecurity.
This year Cardinal Newman was able to construct 175 boxes and have $3,000 left to donate to Catholic charities that help those in need within our community. Nearly 200 families were able to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday a little bit more, thanks to the generosity of our school family.
