Cardinal Newman Hires New Orchestra Director, Ryan Knott

Cardinal Newman is excited to announce the hiring of Ryan Knott as our new Orchestra Director. Ryan is an active performing cellist, teacher, and recording artist. Starting as a symphony cellist, he has since taken his cello playing to new mediums and genres. From his home studio he has recorded and appeared on albums with well known composers and artists such as Mark Petrie, audiomachine, Kill the Noise, Cage the Elephant, Tasha Cobbs, and others. Ryan regularly performs with orchestras around the Southeastern US, including the Greenville Symphony, Augusta Symphony, Savannah Philharmonic, South Carolina Philharmonic, Rock Hill Symphony,  and others. He has toured nationally and internationally as part of the Joshua Messick Trio, an Asheville NC based folk-world eclectic ensemble.
When not performing and recording, Ryan is devoted to providing students with the knowledge, skills, and discipline required to play the cello, as well as nurturing their individual artistic voice. He is a dedicated multi-genre cellist with a passion for helping students discover and learn music they are passionate for. Ryan studied with Dr. Robert Jesselson -- distinguished professor at the University of South Carolina -- where he discovered his enthusiasm for teaching and developed a mindful approach to practicing.
