Military

Midstate SC Bases

Columbia, SC is home to several military installations and Cardinal Newman is fortunate to be located in close proximity to Fort Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base, and McEntire Joint National Guard Base. We deeply value the sacrifices made by those who serve our country and we believe the rich experience a military family and their children bring makes our community stronger. Beginning with our highly personalized admissions process, during our annual Veterans Day program and reception, through graduation and becoming alumni, we are committed to supporting military families with stability, compassion, and a strong sense of belonging. Cardinal Newman offers a faith-filled education rooted in Catholic values, a challenging curriculum, and a warm, inclusive community where children can grow spiritually, academically, and socially. We invite military families to join us and allow our school to become a home away from home, where your child can thrive and your family can feel embraced and supported.

Cardinal Newman currently has one endowed scholarship that is designated to benefit a child from a military family, either active duty or retired. The Mahoney Family Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 to honor the memories of Andrew Mahoney '93 and his parents Christine and Donald Mahoney, all who were committed to Catholic education and their Country as a military family. The Mahoney Family Memorial Scholarship, once awarded, may remain part of the student's financial aid package. If you would like to help grow this endowment, contact Mrs. Amy Yoho at ayoho@cnhs.org.

As a former teacher whose family has moved several times, my first priority when relocating has always been to find the right school for our children. Finding the right mix of challenging courses, academic support, and athletic opportunities is not always easy, but we found it at Cardinal Newman. My children's faith development, experiences with community service, and new friendships have only reaffirmed that our family is in the right place.
