College Counseling

Mary Mann

Director of College Counseling
B.S., Geology, University of Missouri
Cardinal Newman is a college preparatory school and our number one goal is preparing  our students for college, and the world beyond. For most of our students that means preparing for a four-year college. The college application process can feel overwhelming, and at times maybe even intimidating. Fortunately we have a dedicated Director of College Counseling, Ms. Mary Mann, and team of skilled counselors who begin working with students as early as ninth grade.

College counseling begins when students enter high school, with research and test prep, and continues with increased regularity throughout a student's senior year. Ms. Mann sends weekly updates in the Cardinal Compass, to keep parents aware of what resources and grade appropriate events are available to them and their students. She meets with students as often as requested to assist with application strategy and timelines, reviewing essays and personal statements, and guiding the financial aid and scholarship application process. Ms. Mann schedules on campus visits from individual colleges, universities, trade schools and the military, in addition to hosting a College Fair on campus at least once a year.

In 2026, graduates were offered a total of $18 million in merit based scholarships, and were accepted into elite schools like UPenn, Williams College, UVA, NYU and Johns Hopkins.

Cardinal Newman is proud to have built relationships with and sent students to elite programs like Duke, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Notre Dame, UCLA, UNC Chapel Hill, Northwestern, Catholic University, American University, William & Lee, Virginia Tech, Clemson Honors, University of South Carolina Honors, Wofford, Furman and many more. The Cardinal Newman academic curriculum and individualized planning provide for students to be ready to apply to any school, including these.

Year-to-Year | What to Expect

For Colleges & Universities: Cardinal Newman uses RepVisits to schedule college visits.  Scheduling opens in early July of each year.  We host Admission Representatives from early September through mid-November.  Junior and senior students are invited to attend all visits.  We welcome both regional and national Admissions Representatives to visit our campus.  In person and virtual visits are available.  All visits last 30 to 40 minutes.  If you have any questions or cannot find a time that matches with your availability, please contact Ms. Mary Mann, at 803-888-1624 or mmann@cnhs.org.   We look forward to hosting you and giving our students the opportunity to learn about all your school has to offer!
